What is Apple AirTag?

Apple’s latest smart device is the AirTag. We can use AirTag to keep track of our stuff. Apple AirTag is a small and useful button-like device tracker that can help you locate misplaced or stolen items. We can attach this AirTag to a key chain, handbag, backpack, etc to easily find them.

Apple AirTag is a small and lightweight device. The battery can easily replaced using a removable cover. It has a built-in speaker that play sound to locate AirTag. We can set up AirTag by bringing it close to iPhone. AirTag uses Apple’s U1 chip. This chip uses Ultra-Wide band technology for Precision Finding for iPhone users.

The price of Apple Airtag is Rs. 3,190 for a pack of 1 and the price of AirTag with pack of 4 is Rs 10,765 in India. Apple is offering some free personal engraving, consists of text and a selection of 31 emoji if you purchase from apple.com or the Apple Store app.

Apple has disclosed some Airtag accessories, and these accessories includes Polyurethane Loop, Leather Key Ring and Leather Loop that features specially tanned European leather.

How to set up AirTag?

It is easy to set up Apple AirTag. Just we have to bring the AirTag accessory closer to iPhone and it will automatically connect. Now you can attach the require item to AirTag and choose the name from the default list or select the name as per your choice.

After the set up is complete, AirTag will appear in the new item tab in Find My app. Where users can view the item’s current or previous location on a map. After the set up is complete AirTag will appear in the new item tab in Find My app.

A one-tap setup connects your AirTag with your iPhone or iPad. Enter a name for your AirTag and attach it to the item you want to track.

How Apple AirTag works?

AirTags themselves will not contain cellular connectivity. They use Bluetooth and NFC devices that securely communicate. AirTag sends a secure Bluetooth signal, which can detect nearby devices in the Find My network.

These devices send the details about the location of your AirTag to iCloud and you can go to the Find My network and see it on a map. The entire process uses encryption method to protect your privacy. It is efficient, and no need to worry about battery life or data usage.

Just like other Apple gadgets, we can put AirTag into Lost Mode. If Find My app detect the device in the network it will automatically send the notification.

If someone else finds an AirTag, they can simply tap it using their iPhone or any NFC-capable device, which will redirect them to a website with the contact details of the owner, if they have provided it.

Uses of AirTag:

If you lose something like your wallet, don’t worry! If the AirTag is attached to it, and the AirTag is nearby then your iPhone can lead you to it with the help of Precision Finding.

By going to the new items tab on the Find My app, you can play a sound using a built-in speaker or say “Hey Siri, Find My Wallet”. Consider the situation where AirTag is hiding under the furniture or in the next room you will find the distance of your AirTag. The directions to head in, you simply follow the sound, and your search is over.

If you have left something far behind and the AirTag is out of Bluetooth range, we can track it by using Find My app. Apple says Find My network is approaching a billion Apple devices and that can detect Bluetooth signals from a lost AirTag and relay the location back to its owner, all in the background, anonymously and privately.

AirTag includes accessibility support for built-in features of iOS.It has Voice-Over service that uses Precision Finding to help blind users to find the direction of the AirTag like “AirTag is 12 feet away on your right”, according to Apple.

Location data privacy in AirTag :

Apple will keep the location data private and anonymous using end-to-end encryption. The data of the location or history of the location will never store physically inside the AirTag. According to the company, no one, including Apple, knows the identity or location of any device.

In unwanted tracking AirTag has a host of features like frequent rotation of Bluetooth signal identifiers transmitted by AirTag and notifying the user of unknown AirTag.
